Might be lucky enough to take a cruise in the next year or so and was
wondering if anyone out there has taken a cruise and did any
operating from the Ship's Radio Room???? I would assume that they
had something that would let me get on 20 meters?? Any help would be
appreciated.. Thanks.

To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
I have a new FT530 also, and it is also from lot #25, and
it also had a green wire loop jumper on pad 13. I simply
snipped it, and put the radio back together. After that
you're supposed to hold down both the up and down arrows
while turning the radio on. The first time I did this,
I did not get out of band RX. I simply tried again, and it
worked the second time. Didn't have to remove the batteries
or anything, but it did erase all my memories & settings.
Maybe Yaesu added the wire jumper to make the mod easier ?!?

Well...it's fixed now (I hope), so if you have ordered and received

Did anyone see the tiny straight keys for sale in the Dayton Hamvention flea
market?
There was a car parked somewhere in row 1, 2, or 3, just west of the main arena
(near the pub). There were a couple of these miniature keys on the trunk lid.
One had a tag under it that read something like "very rare". And it was marked
$35. The proprietor of the display was not around. The key felt really good.
I'm kicking myself now for not waiting around for the fellow to return.
Anybody know who that guy is? I'd like to get in touch with him.
You know, anyone could have simply walked off with those keys.
Any info would be appreciated.

Last time I checked into it (when we were planning to go to Bermuda
last year), you have to have at least a General Class license to get a
reciprocol license in most of the British countries and former
colonies. I know it applies to Bermuda and the BVI, and I'm pretty
sure it also applies to England. Check with the ARRL Reciprocol
License folks for current info.

Relax Matt...
This came up a few weeks ago too. Don't lose any sleep over it.
Heck, a couple months ago, some guy's wife got on our repeater just
before a net was supposed to start to announce that her husband was sick
and someone else needed to take the net. (He was in that hospital, she
was at home, unlicensed, etc, etc...) So one of the others jumped in and
took the net. Nobody said anything about it and I thought it was pretty
cool.
You did good.

Huh?!?! What do they do... change the mod every couple months? If I
UNSOLDERED my pad #15 I *would* get out of band TX. I left it soldered
in and I CAN NOT TX out of band.

I am wondering what the rank and file think of this Spectrum Show guys
comments? Seems to me they don't make much sense. As for reading and
re-reading his column, I feel his promoting of illegal pirate radio
station operations should get him a visit by the FBI. I worked hard
for my license and so did you. Now we are suppose to believe it is
advancing freedom of speach by encouraging pirate radio stations?
BULL....
